The fire that leaps and dances
Mutters in its glowing caves
The silent shadows flutter
Round the walls in ghostly waves
We will sit and dream of summer
Dream of days that once have been
The sun was bright and golden
The grass was rich and green.
The sky was blue eternal
The night was far away
We never thought of darkness
Living only for the day.
The leaves grew brown and withered
The grass grew dry and old.
We forgot the summer greenness
The leaves were red and gold.
The wind came loud and icy
The gold turned into grey
The sky was black and heavy
We watched the death of day.
We hid from mourning nature
Drowned our age in laugh and song
Neglected and forgot
The flowers and trees we lived among
We hunch about the fire
Watch it flicker, see it make
Dancing shadows, while we linger
Waiting for the world to wake.
